Jingqiu joined the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2022. She is also an affiliate of the Global Change Center (GCC), the Center for Emerging, Zoonotic, and Arthropod-borne Pathogens (CeZAP), the Biological Transport Program (BIOTRANS), the Genetics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology Program (GBCB), and the Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture.

Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she was a postdoctoral research scientist working with Dr. Tal Korem at Columbia University. She received her Ph.D. in microbiology from Cornell University in 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Martin Wiedmann and was a Ph.D. exchange student at MIT advised by Dr. Otto Cordero. She earned her M.S. in environmental science from Peking University in 2014 and her B.S. in ecology from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2001.

Jingqiu enjoys photography, tennis, piano, ukulele, and cooking in her spare time.

Jingqiu is pronounced “jing-chio”.
