Shannon joined the LEAPH Lab in 2022 Fall. She is an M.S. student in the Environmental & Water Resources Engineering program in the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She is a part of the graduating class of 2022 from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and minor in environmental science. In her undergraduate career, she completed research on nitrogen transport in biochar- and compost-amended soils for stormwater management improvements in roadway soils. Her thesis focused on analyzing the effect of the Summer of 2021, single-use plastic ban on UVA’s waste stream, and comparing the sociotechnical factors influencing the municipal solid waste management systems of the US and Germany. She is a Virginia resident and was a member of the Society of Women Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, and Rodman Scholar program.
